DANCE PHYSIO

What is a Dance Physio Assessment?

Our Dance Physio Assessment is a full physiotherapy assessment including discussion of current technical demands, challenges (eg. struggling with pointe work, jumping, turning etc), and any pain while dancing, followed by physical testing and individualized recommendations .

Who can it help?

Our Dance Physio Assessment is designed for dancers of age, style, and skill level. Dancers who have struggled with ongoing pain or who are looking for help with a specific skill (e.g., turnout) will benefit most from this assess, however all dancers will improve understanding of their bodies and areas to target for better performance. Special consideration is given to young dancers to ensure an age-appropriate and fun experience.

What’s included?

  • While areas of concern will be prioritized, common assessments may include a variety of range of motion, strength, balance and dance specific testing. Focus will typically be on lower body (back, hips, knees, and ankles), unless the dancer has concerns with the upper body, which can also be addressed.

  • All dancers will be given a home exercise program to help with areas of identified weakness/concern. If further treatment is indicated, we will advise this during the assessment and explain the recommended treatment plan to help address the pain/concern. Not all dancers will be recommended follow-up treatments.

  • A letter summarizing findings and recommendations will be provided to help keep your dance studio and teachers informed. We are happy to work with your instructors on all recommendations.
